At Hever Tortoise World online Store we stock four products from the Agrobs Pre Alpin Testudo range. Agrobs Pre Alpin Testudo products were designed by the German Agricultural Company Agrobs specifically to meet dietary needs of Tortoises. Although called Testudo, the products are not specific to Testudo genus of Tortoises (i.e. Mediterranean, North African/Central Asian tortoises). They are suitable for all grass eating species including other Temperate zone desert tortoises such as Gopher group (i.e. Bolson). As well as tropical Grassland/Savannah tortoises (Leopard, Sulcata/ some Hingebacks), other Tropical Herbivores (Pancake, Indian/Burmese Stars, Radiated & Aldabra).
Agrobs Pre Alpin range includes Testudo Original and Testudo Herbs which come in a form of dried, cold compressed cobs. Testudo Fibre is presented as dried grass/herb fibres rather than cobs. And the Testudo Baby is characterised by extra short grass and herb fibres.
Although somewhat similar, each Testudo product has its own nutritional composition. Testudo Original is high in crude fibre and low in protein. Testudo Herbs is similar to Testudo Original but is based on a broader variety of grasses and herbs. It also contains a slightly higher amount of protein. Fibre is similar to Testudo Herbs but is in a form of loose fibres. Baby is characterised by its extra short fibres and is especially made for juvenile tortoises. However, we find Testudo Baby excellent for all life stages and especially for fussy tortoises. Because the extra short fibres look and act a bit more like powder, sticking well to fresh foods.
COMPOSITION OF AGROBS TESTUDO PRODUCTS
The whole Testudo range consists of over 60 varieties of meadow grasses and herbs grown on beautiful Bavarian (German) meadows. These are carefully cultivated and harvested at different times of year to ensure a slightly different composition between the products. The products contain grasses such as timothy, cocksfoot, meadow fescue, Kentucky blue grass, meadow foxtail, tall oatgrass & red fescue. As well as herbaceous perennial plants such as yarrow, meadow cumin, wild parsley, fennel/dill, chicory, ribwort plantain and wild carrot. These plants form part of the natural habitat of many species of tortoises.
The plants are gently processed in a modern drying plant with warm air with no added binding agents or flavourings. This ensures that the plant structure is maintained. Gentle and weather-independent processing gives the fibres a quality exceeding that of any conventionally dried hay. The fibres contain valuable trace elements and vitamin-rich components such as leaves, flowers and seeds.
Through controlled cultivation, timely harvest and gentle processing, Agrobs guarantees a naturally high nutrient content. As well as levels of crude fibre contained for healthy gut flora maintenance and have an ideal Calcium: Phosphorus ratio.
HOW TO USE AGROBS TESTUDO RANGE FOR TORTOISES: AGROBS ORIGINAL, HERBS, FIBRE AND BABY
Soak Agrobs Testudo Original & Herbs compressed cobs (for tortoises) in warm water for 10 -15 min. Testudo Baby & Fibre can be sprinkled onto the tortoise’s usual fresh food without first being soaked. However, soaking improves palatability and encourages increased water intake by the animal. Then thoroughly mix a small amount of the mixture with the fresh food. Start small, be patient, gradually increasing the amount.
